The crunch of leaves underfoot, a chill in the afternoon air, the noticeable shortening of the days—they’re all signs of many people’s favorite season. Fall isn’t in the air quite yet, but it is right around the corner. And that means now is the time to start scoping out which fall festivals that you’ll be going to this year. New Jersey is full of great fall festivals, and there’s something for everyone—from the fun-loving young folks to family events for parents and their children. Here are a few of our favorite New Jersey Fall Festivals that you can mark on your calendar.
Ridgefield Park’s Fall Festival Street Fair—September 16, 2017
The annual street fair is a great way to kick off the fall season. You’ll find plenty of street vendors, mechanical rides for the kids, face painting, sand art, and games. There’s also live music and entertainment throughout the day, and local businesses will be offering special sales and showcasing their wares. And don’t forget all of the fantastic food that’s available from one end of the street fair to the other. You’ll find everything from ice cream to shish ka bobs.
Mercer County’s Oktoberfest—September 24, 2017
The 8th annual Oktoberfest is going to be a blast this year, and admission is only $5 for adults. For children 12 and under, it’s free. For that small price, you get to enjoy plenty of fun, music, and of course, German food and beer. There are also family and kid oriented activities, as well as plenty of great vendors and even a pig roast. Oh, and admission is free to anyone wearing full traditional German attire. So now’s the time to start looking for lederhosen.
Blackwood Pumpkin Festival—Sunday October 1, 2017
Pumpkins are so closely associated with fall that it’s hard to imagine an autumn celebration without them. And at the 26th annual Blackwood Pumpkin Festival, the pumpkins are the main event. Of course, there will also be food, drinks, entertainment, and live music. But you’ll also be able to go on a hayride, make a scarecrow, and participate in a pumpkin painting and carving contest. If the original date is rained out, the festival will be held on October 8th.
28th Annual Cranberry Festival—October 7-8, 2017
Love cranberries? How about festivals? Then head to Bordentown for their 28th annual Cranberry Festival. Since its humble beginnings in 1989, the festival has grown to attract over 150 crafters, artists, and vendors, and it attracts 40,000 visitors each year. This attraction is well worth your time, and it’s the perfect way to spend a weekend doing something fun with the family.
West Milford Autumn Lights Festival—October 14, 2017
Come to West Milford and enjoy the 22nd annual Autumn Lights Festival. The Festival features over 300 vendors, games, rides, live music, and so much more. You’ll be joined by thousands of other festival goers throughout the day, which lasts from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
