Whether you can trace your heritage back to the old country, or don’t have a drop of Irish blood in you, St. Patrick’s Day is always a great celebration to be a part of. If you haven’t figured out what you’ll be doing in March this year, then take a peek at this handy guide to some of the great St. Patty’s events that New Jersey has to offer. There’s something for everyone, from family-friendly events to wild block parties.
Atlantic City St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Head on down to Atlantic City this March 11th, and get yourself a prime spot for the AC St. Patrick’s Day Parade, starting at 1 p.m. on the boardwalk in front of Revel. It will feature pipe bands, string bands, and all the festive green that you could wish for. The parade will end at Albany Avenue and Boardwalk. This is a classic, can’t-miss parade that you should make it to at least once if you’re in the area.
Hoboken St. Patrick’s Day
Hoboken may not still hold the actual parade anymore, but their St. Patty’s Day celebration is one of the best, and rowdiest, that you’ll find in Jersey, or anywhere else for that matter. On Saturday, March 4th, come visit Hoboken and take part in the revelry, making your way through the green and orange-clothed masses to over 20 different venues that are participating in the celebration. Fair warning, this one isn’t very kid friendly, so keep that in mind if you’ve got young ones to think about.
Irish Night at Albert Music Hall
This annual tradition at Albert Music Hall in Waretown, NJ on March 25th will feature live music and entertainment from a variety of Irish bands and entertainers, including the Devrin Academy Step Dancers, The River Driver’s Irish Band, and Martin Kavanaugh & The Hard Road Travelers Irish Band. If you’re looking for some live music to close out your yearly St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, then this is the place to be.
St. Patrick’s Day in the 1830s
If you’re less interested in swigging green beer, and more interested in history, then this might be the perfect way to celebrate the holiday. The Historic Village At Allaire is hosting a free reenactment on March 12th. You can see what life was like in the early 1800s, as well as experiencing a reenactment that follows rising tensions in Allaire after the Irish workers are given the day off for St. Patrick’s Day. It will be a fun, family friendly atmosphere, and you just might walk away having learned a thing or two.
Bergen County St. Patrick’s Day Parade
If you’re still looking for more parade fun around St. Patty’s Day, then we also suggest you check out Bergen County’s 36th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday, March 12th. Hosted by The Council of Irish Associations of Greater Bergen County, this parade is a wonderful celebration of Irish heritage and culture. The Parade will begin at 2 p.m. on Washington Ave. in Bergenfield.
