Even though there are plenty of colored contact lenses out there, your eye color is with you for life. They say the eyes are the windows to the soul, and looking deeply into a person’s eyes may be able to tell you something about them.
Plenty of people in the past have attributed certain personality traits or characteristics to everything from the shape of a person’s head to their hair color, and yes, the color of their eyes. Most of these theories have been debunked, but it turns out that there may be some things that you can tell about a person by their eye color, although it probably isn’t their personality.
Now, remember that because a study found a certain correlation between eye color and something else, that doesn’t make it a hard and true fact. Your eyes don’t determine everything about you. That being said…
Dark Eyes
Brown is the most common eye color in the world, but there are also variations that tend towards black. People with dark eyes are considered more trustworthy, which is great. People with dark eyes also had more facial characteristics associated with trustworthiness, so it might not just be the eyes.
People with dark eyes also appear to be at a lower risk for macular degeneration. The risk of macular degeneration is lower because a darker iris blocks more ultraviolet light. Although no matter what your eye color is, you should always protect your eyes from the sun with sunglasses or UV absorbing contact lenses.
The downside of dark eyes? You’re pretty common. About half of all people worldwide have brown eyes, so you’re probably not going to get much praise for them. There’s a reason there are a million different songs about blue eyes. Dark eyed people pretty much just have Brown Eyed Girl. Not that we’re complaining.
Light Eyes
So what’s the good news for those with blue, green, or grey eyes? Well, for one thing, people with lighter eyes tend to be more competitive. You can take that as either a positive or negative, but just because you’re competitive doesn’t mean you can’t be friendly, as well!
People with light eyes can also drink more alcohol. Again, this can be taken either way. On the one hand, you can outdrink your dark eyed friends when it comes to those long nights. On the other hand, the study showed that people with light colored eyes were also more likely to abuse alcohol. So it’s not all great news. Still, these relationships are associations, not causes. Blue eyes don’t necessarily mean you can drink your friends under the table, and they certainly don’t cause alcohol abuse.
Regardless of color, there’s beauty in everyone’s eyes. If you wear contacts or glasses and just want to show off your eyes without any interference, then you should think about LASIK. Schedule a consultation with OCLI today, and see if you’re a good candidate for LASIK surgery.
